Project Support Office
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions support the training and career development of researchers through doctoral programmes, research fellowships for postdoctoral researchers, and collaborative projects. A key principle is mobility: researchers move to a host institution in a country where they have not been long-term residents or active in order to acquire new knowledge, skills, and competences that will contribute to their career advancement. MSCA focus on international, intersectoral, and interdisciplinary cooperation.
PROJECT CATEGORIES
MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships are an excellent opportunity for outstanding early-career postdoctoral researchers, enabling them to obtain a generous grant to undertake a research stay abroad of up to three years in order to launch their own groundbreaking research and achieve comprehensive professional development. For the host institution, MSCA-PF represents an opportunity to recruit talented postdoctoral researchers from abroad into established research groups.
ABOUT POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
MSCA-PF CATEGORIES
- European PFs:
- Carried out in an EU member state or in a country associated with the Horizon Europe program.
- Global PFs:
- Carried out in the so-called outgoing phase outside the EU, followed by the return phase in an EU member state or a country associated with the Horizon Europe program.
PROPOSAL CONDITIONS
- The candidate must hold a PhD degree awarded no more than 8 years prior to the submission of the application (the eligibility period may be extended, for example, due to maternity/paternity leave, long-term illness, or periods when the candidate was not working in the research field).
- The candidate must meet the mobility rule, i.e., must not have been a student or employee in the host country (for EFs) or in the host organization during the outgoing phase (for GFs) for more than 12 months within the 36 months immediately preceding the call deadline.
PROJECT DURATION
- European PFs: 12–24 months
- Global PFs: 12–24 months for the so-called outgoing phase, and 12 months for the so-called return phase.
HOW TO APPLY
- Contact the PSO, which will register the applicant and provide all supporting materials.
- Define the research topic (bottom-up) and find a suitable host institution and, most importantly, a supervisor.
- Register in the Funding & Tenders Portal, where, after the call opens, the electronic application form is available.
- The application form (AF) includes: Part A (administrative/technical information) and Part B1 (proposal).
- Several months of writing and consultations with the supervisor (their role is crucial!), and, if needed, with the PSO.
- Submit the application online.
FUNDING
- In the case of success, the postdoctoral researcher receives a monthly grant consisting of:
- Living allowance (competitive salary), calculated based on the program’s flat rate multiplied by a country-specific correction coefficient
- Travel costs
- Costs for family members, if applicable
- Costs for special needs, etc.
- The host institution receives a monthly grant for:
- RTN (research, training, networking), i.e., costs related to training, work-related travel of the candidate, etc.
- Management and indirect costs (overhead)
- Thanks to the inclusion of the Czech Republic in the Horizon Europe scheme: Widening Participation and Spreading Excellence, it is possible within the e-application to request participation in the ERA-Fellowship competition, which increases the chance of success → this follows MSCA rules and is evaluated in the same evaluation process,

MSCA Doctoral Networks implement PhD programmes through partnerships of universities, research institutions, infrastructures, companies, and other socio-economic actors from different countries in Europe and beyond. Their aim is to address needs in research and innovation, connect researchers with practice in the non-academic sector, and offer transferable skills and competences for innovation and long-term employability.
ABOUT DOCTORAL NETWORKS
MSCA-DN CATEGORIES
- Standard DN:
- implemented in an EU Member State or in a country associated with the Horizon Europe programme
- Industrial DN:
- these programmes train doctoral candidates who wish to develop their skills and move beyond the academic sphere, in particular into industry and the business sector. Individual participants must be enrolled in a doctoral programme and be jointly supervised by academic and non-academic partners.
- these programmes train doctoral candidates who wish to develop their skills and move beyond the academic sphere, in particular into industry and the business sector. Individual participants must be enrolled in a doctoral programme and be jointly supervised by academic and non-academic partners.
- Joint DN:
- integrated international and interdisciplinary cooperation in doctoral training leading to the creation of joint doctoral programmes and the award of a joint PhD degree by the participating institutions. Doctoral candidates must therefore be enrolled in a joint programme and be jointly supervised.

MSCA Staff Exchanges support international and intersectoral mobility of researchers and specialists from both the academic and non-academic sectors. The aim is to enable the exchange of experience and knowledge between organisations in different countries, thereby fostering the development of new skills, enhancing scientific excellence, and strengthening cooperation among research institutions. This programme offers opportunities to participate in research projects with global reach that contribute to innovation and technology transfer.
MSCA COFUND provides funding for regional, national, and international programmes focused on training and career development through co-funding mechanisms. It spreads MSCA best practices by promoting high standards and excellent working conditions. COFUND supports sustainable training and international, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral mobility.
