Days of Electron Microscopy Brno 2026
-
23 – 29 March 2026
- Faculty of Science, Masasaryk Univeristy, campus Kotlářská 2, Building No. 6
As the capital city of electron microscopy, Brno presents the Days of Electron Microscopy 2025. The week-long event takes place this year from March 24 - 30 and is associated with various lectures and exhibitions for the public, families with children, and professionals. The event is organized by the Brno Observatory and Planetarium and, together with its partners, offers a taste of what electron microscopy makes possible. Take a look at the entire program of the event. You can look forward to lectures, exhibitions, excursions and much more.
Days of Electron Microscopy Brno
For the third time, the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology and the CEPLANT center together with the the Department of Condensed Matter Physics and students of a new master study programme Microscopy will present the following preliminary program to the general public at the premises of the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University (campus Kotlářská 2).
Thursday, March 26, 2026
3D screening of electron microscope images
Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 4:30 PM to 5:10 PM
lecture room F2, building No. 6, Kotlářská 2, MU Faculty of Science
Microscopy: The BEST Field in the World
Lecture by Viléma Vojta and Michal Gerža
Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 5:15 PM to 6:30 PM
lecture room F2, building No. 6, Kotlářská 2, MU Faculty of Science
The Physics Café will offer two consecutive parts – first a screening of 3D images from an electron microscope, followed by an engaging lecture dedicated to the current possibilities and fascinations of electron microscopy.
Why attend?
Come enjoy the stunning details of a world normally hidden from the human eye. You'll meet a community of enthusiastic science teachers, hear inspiring perspectives from experts, and join cross‑generational discussions about electron microscopy from the viewpoints of science, education, and everyday life.
Lecture annotation
Microscopes can reveal worlds invisible to the naked eye – worlds that may be far more vibrant, dramatic, and surprising than they seem. Two promising microscopists at the beginning of their careers will take you on a journey across disciplines, instruments, and the personal experiences that have shaped them. We will explore the “best of” the microscopy world: record‑breaking feats, fascinating discoveries, and techniques that have pushed the boundaries of what is possible. And along the way, we’ll share a few of our own “bests” – the kind that never make it into textbooks, yet make science so human, fun, and sometimes a little suspenseful.

Open Electron Microscopy Laboratory
Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 9 AM to 3 PM
CEPLANT and Department of Plasma Physics and Technology laboratories
lower level of Building 6, Kotlářská 2, MU Faculty of Science
Electron microscope images – screening also in 3D
Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 9 AM to 3 PM
lecture room F1, Building 6, Kotlářská 2, MU Faculty of Science
Take a look inside the electron microscopy laboratory of the CEPLANT Centre at the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology and discover a world that is normally hidden from the human eye. Although the history of electron microscopy at our workplace does not span 75 years, fourteen years of experience have been enough for it to become an indispensable and timeless tool of our scientific work.
The accompanying programme will offer screenings of images from the electron microscope as well as glimpses into the research activities of our scientists and students.
