The 2025 Werner von Siemens Awards were presented to the best students, young researchers and educators in technical and natural science fields. This year, expert juries evaluated a total of 662 submissions and distributed prize money amounting to one million CZK among 22 award recipients.

In the category Best Master’s Thesis, the award went to Mgr. Dominika Bezdeková from the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University. She was recognized for her thesis in chemistry titled MALDI(-2) MS Imaging of Lipid Isomers Differing in the Position of the Double Bond in Biological Tissue Samples.

In her thesis, she improved the ozonolysis method, which enables the determination of the position of double bonds in lipids through their reaction with ozone combined with mass spectrometry. The results of her research may contribute to a better understanding of the biological functions of lipids in the human body and their role in the development of various diseases.

The Werner von Siemens Award has been organized by Siemens for 28 years in cooperation with leading representatives of universities and the Czech Academy of Sciences. This year, the independent expert juries consisted of 56 specialists from the academic community. Since the competition was established, a total of CZK 18.5 million has been awarded to outstanding students, researchers and educators.
